Two kinds of writing
The portfolio taxonomy this site now follows distinguishes the subject from the machine: Articles are about the topic; ancient metrology, survey evidence, measurement uncertainty; and the Blog is about the technical life of the site itself. The seven essays that launched at this address belong to the first kind, so today they moved to /articles/, and the blog address became this build log.
The mechanics
Each essay kept its content and its schema and changed only its address; a permanent redirect stands at every old URL, and every canonical tag, breadcrumb, and sitemap entry was rewritten to match. Nothing was deleted. One hub changed jobs.
The navigation debt
An honest admission the move surfaced: the Journal was reachable from the About page, the Source register, and a couple of research pages, but the primary navigation never linked it. Both sections now sit in the nav of every page; the internal-linking rule the portfolio standard demands, applied a week later than it should have been.
House rules
Entries dated before 17 July 2026 are reconstructed from the project’s dated planning history and say so. Gap weeks stay silent rather than being padded. The cadence from here is weekly, and every entry is written under the same editorial standards and the same named editor as the rest of the site.
